As a Swede who lives in Stockholm and has traveled to and from the airport countless of times. I’m going to give you a complete guide on how to get from our Stockholm Airports to the city centre.
I’ll be sharing firsthand experience with all the methods I’ve tried, so you can choose the one that suits your preferences and budget.
How to get to Stockholm City from the Airport:
- Use the Flygbussarna Airport Coaches if you want the most popular and cheapest option with decent comfort (11€ or 129 kr).
- You can opt in for Arlanda Express, which costs quite a bit more (30€ / 320 kr). It’s comfortable and super fast. Only 18 min to city centre.
- Uber is the best option if you arrive in the middle of the night or just missed the Arlanda Express. It’s pricey (50€ / 500 kr – 80€ / 800).

Flygbussarna Airport Coaches Express Bus
Cheapest and most popular method – 50 minutes – 11€
The “Flygbussarna” airport coaches is a private company. It’s cheap, easy and comfortable to use. There is more then enough space to put all your luggage onboard.
The bus stop is just 50 meters to the left after you exit the terminal building. The bus then stops in multiple parts of Stockholm city.

Arlanda Express Train
The Arlanda Express train is a great option for those who are willing to pay extra for a fast and convenient journey to and from Arlanda Airport and Stockholm City Centre.
Cheapest and most popular method – 18 minutes – 30€

- Stops: Stockholm City, first stop (terminal 2,3,4) and second stop (Terminal 5).

Arlanda Airport Location
Arlanda Airport is located 40 kilometers north of Stockholm city center, which is approximately 25 miles away. It is the main airport for Stockholm and serves as the arrival point for most flights. The airport is easily accessible by ground transportation, and there are several options available for travelers to get to the city center.
Upon arrival at Arlanda Airport, travelers can follow the signs for ground transportation to find their way to the various transportation options. There are three main ways to get to Stockholm city center from the airport, including the Arlanda Express train, commuter trains, and buses. Taxis and ride-sharing services are also available.
The Arlanda Express train is the fastest and most expensive option, taking less than 20 minutes to reach Stockholm Central Station. The train platform is located underneath the airport terminals, and tickets can be purchased from the official Arlanda Express website, app, or self-service ticket machines located on the train platform. Commuter trains run by SL Stockholm public transport are a more budget-friendly option, taking twice as long as the Arlanda Express but costing half the price.
Buses are another option for travelers, with Flygbussarna and Flixbus operating coaches that depart from the airport every 10-15 minutes. Travelers can also take public bus 583 to Marsta station and then take the commuter line to Stockholm Central Station.
Taxis and ride-sharing services are available directly outside all terminals, with taxi companies setting their own prices. Uber is also available, but drivers are required to have a taxi license on the airport to city center route.
Arlanda Airport is conveniently located for travelers to Stockholm, with several transportation options available to get to the city center.
Ground Transportation Options
When arriving at Arlanda Airport, there are several ground transportation options available to get to Stockholm City Centre. The three main ways are by train, bus, or taxi/rideshare.
For those who prioritize speed and convenience over cost, the Arlanda Express train is the best option. It takes less than 20 minutes to reach Stockholm Central Station and leaves every 15 minutes. However, the tickets are on the pricey side, costing just under 300 Swedish kronor for a one-way ticket. Discounts are available for advance bookings, groups, seniors, and other options.
For those on a budget, the commuter trains run by SL Stockholm public transport are half the cost of the Arlanda Express but take twice as long. The trains depart from Arlanda Central Station in Skycity between terminals four and five and leave every half-hour between 5:00 a.m. and midnight. The journey takes 39 minutes, and a single journey ticket from Arlanda Airport to Stockholm City Station costs 157 kroner.
If taking a bus is preferred, Flygbussarna operates coaches departing Arlanda Airport every 10-15 minutes with travel times of about 50 minutes to the city center. Buses depart from terminals five, four, two, and three. Flixbus operates the airport bus from terminal five with buses running every 30 minutes at a cost of 24 euro.
For those who want to save some money, taking a combination of public bus and commuter rail is the cheapest way to reach the central Stockholm. Take public bus five eight three to Marsta station, which takes around 18 minutes. The bus stop is located between terminals four and five. From Marta’s station, take the commuter line to Stockholm Central Station, avoiding the passage supplement fee. The total journey time should be around an hour.
Taxis are available directly outside all terminals, but taxi companies can set their own prices, so always ask the driver what price is in effect before starting the trip. The maximum price from Arlanda Airport to Stockholm City Centre is 675 kronor. Uber is also available, but drivers are required to have a taxi license on the airport to city center, costing around 600 kronor.
Arlanda Express Train
For those who prioritize speed over budget, the Arlanda Express train is the best option to travel from Arlanda Airport to Stockholm City Centre. The train takes less than 20 minutes to reach Stockholm Central Station and departs every 15 minutes. The train platform is located underneath the airport terminals and has several entrances that are easy to spot.
Ticket Purchase and Pricing
Tickets for the Arlanda Express train can be purchased from the official website, Arlanda Express app, or self-service ticket machines located on the train platform next to all escalators and elevators. It is important to note that the tickets for the Arlanda Express train are on the pricey side, costing just under 320 Swedish kronor for a one-way ticket for those who are 26 and older. Discounts are available online for advance bookings, groups, seniors, and a host of other options.
For those seeking a discount, there are reduced fares for those traveling in parties of two, three, and four. It is important to have your ticket before boarding the train, and there is a boarding fee of 100 Swedish Krona. It is also important to note that the Arlanda Express train does not accept cash.
Journey Details
The Arlanda Express train takes less than 20 minutes to travel from Arlanda Airport to Stockholm Central Station. The journey is 18 minutes from Central Stockholm to Arlanda Airport. The train runs approximately every 15 minutes, making it a convenient option for travelers. For those who need to travel from Central Station back to the airport, the journey can be reversed by taking the Arlanda Express train.
Commuter Train
For those seeking a more budget-friendly option, the commuter train run by SL Stockholm public transport is a great choice to get from Arlanda Airport to Stockholm City Centre. The journey takes approximately 39 minutes, which is twice as long as the Arlanda Express train, but it is half the cost.
Ticket Purchase and Pricing
A single journey ticket from Arlanda Airport to Stockholm City Station costs 157 kroner. Tickets can be purchased from the ticket office at Sky City, self-service ticket machines, or through the SL app. For those planning to stay in the Stockholm area for a while, the SL access card is a great option. It can be reloaded as needed and used on all Stockholm public transportation systems. However, it is important to note that a passage supplement fee must be paid when using the SL access card for the train from the airport to the city centre.
Journey Details
To catch the commuter train, follow the signs for the Arlanda “C” trains. The trains depart from Arlanda Central Station in Skycity, located between terminals four and five. Trains run every half-hour between 5:00 a.m. and midnight.
The commuter train is a reliable and cost-effective way to get from Arlanda Airport to Stockholm City Centre. While it may take a bit longer than the Arlanda Express train, it is a great option for budget-conscious travelers.
Bus Transport
For those looking for a more affordable option to get from Arlanda Airport to Stockholm City Centre, there are several bus options available. Here are the three main choices:
Flygbussarna
Flygbussarna operates coaches departing from Arlanda Airport every 10-15 minutes with travel times of about 50 minutes to the city center. Buses depart from terminals five, four, and terminals two and three. You can purchase tickets with a credit card from the ticket machine or on the bus, but you’ll pay a bit less if you buy your ticket in advance through the Flygbussarna website or app. The cost for a one-way ticket is 99 Swedish kronor.
Flixbus
Flixbus operates the airport bus from terminal five with buses running every 30 minutes. The cost for a one-way ticket is 24 euro.
Public Bus and Commuter Rail Combination
The cheapest way to get to central Stockholm is to use the combination of public bus and commuter rail. Take public bus 583 to Märsta station with a travel time of around 18 minutes. The bus stop is located between terminals four and five. From Märsta’s station, take the commuter line to Stockholm Central Station, avoiding the passage supplement fee. Altogether, your journey time should be around an hour. A single journey ticket from Arlanda Airport to Stockholm City Station costs 157 Swedish kronor and is available from the ticket office at Sky City, self-service ticket machines, or through their app. You can also buy a travel card valid for 24 or 72 hours, good on Stockholm public transportation system. You can use this for the train from the airport to the city center, but you will need to pay a passage supplement fee. If you are in Stockholm area for a while, find the SL access card, which could be reloaded as you go.
Taxi and Rideshare
Taxi
Taxis are available directly outside all terminals at Arlanda Airport. Swedish taxi companies can set their own prices, so it is recommended to always ask the driver for the price before starting the trip. The maximum price from Arlanda Airport to Stockholm City Centre is 675 kronor.
Uber
Uber is available in Stockholm, but drivers are required to have a taxi license to pick up passengers from the airport. The cost of an Uber ride from Arlanda Airport to Stockholm City Centre is around 500 kronor.
It is important to note that taking a taxi or Uber can be more expensive than other transportation options. If budget is a concern, it is recommended to consider taking the train or bus. However, if convenience and comfort are a priority, a taxi or Uber may be a good option.
